Finding my way to being a Career Counselor involved a long search process for me. After graduating from college I worked several jobs, most chosen because they revolved around one of my many interests. I worked in a plant nursery, cooked in several restaurants, and helped make high-end custom wooden doors and windows for a small woodworking shop. Working for a temp agency, a choice made in an attempt to bump myself into a higher pay bracket, quickly led to full time work in 'Corporate America;' I started off as an administrative assistant at Bank of America and then gained network administration and help desk skills after letting my technical interests be known. From here I took a position at Gap, Inc. headquarters where I managed a computer help desk, created websites, and dabbled in technical writing. After 5 years in the technical field I was fortunate enough to transform one of my major interests, environmental issues, into a job supporting the roll-out of a residential and commercial composting program in San Francisco. After several years working in the environmental field I realized it was time for another career change. This time I followed my interest in and passion for helping people and after a bit of research decided counseling would be a good field for me. I pursued my master's degree in the field, gained hands on experience with career counseling through an internship, and I've been very happily doing this work ever since. Prior to working as Assistant Director here at the University of Oregon I worked with both undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Michigan.
