I grew up outside Philadelphia, but I've also lived in Virginia and North Carolina. In 2001, I moved to Eugene to begin work on my Ph.D. I'm finishing up my dissertation on Anglo-Saxon saints' lives now. I spent four years as a GTF, teaching composition and literature courses in the English department. I loved teaching Shakespeare and Middle English literature "in the original language." Two years ago, I realized I didn't want to pursue a tenure-track job as a professor, and I joined the Career Center last year. I run the Career Connections Program which is a one-credit career exploration class we offer through various departments and schools on campus. I still get to teach classes while also working with students individually through drop-in and appointments. I really enjoy helping students brainstorm ideas and find resources to aid them in their career development. My background as a writing instructor and tutor comes in handy when I help students with resumes, cover letters, and personal statements for graduate school applications. I also serve as the resident grammar expert and answerer of strange, unusual, or esoteric questions.
Education, Training & Certifications:
Ph.D., English, with a concentration in Medieval Studies, University of Oregon, expected June 2008
M.A., English, Wake Forest University
B.A., English, Randolph-Macon Woman's College
Most unique job: Office Assistant for a Thoroughbred Horse Breeding and Training Facility.
