Most of my career has been spent in some form of customer service which I use every day as Employment Services Coordinator at the Career Center. I had several jobs while in college: map library assistant, librarian for a non-profit energy conservation group; librarian and receptionist for a consortium of environmental organizations; seasonal park aid for Anza Borrego State Park; seasonal recreation tech and then permanent employee of the Forest Service; river guide on the American River.  While working in the Sierra National Forest I met the owners of the dude ranch who hired me to drive their ferryboat and operate a tiny convenience store at the edge of the John Muir Wilderness which I did for several summers while I returned to school to get my teaching credential. My varied interests and experience in so many areas have made me an advocate in particular for students interested in pursuing “non traditional” careers and I am intrigued by these fascinating people who come to the Career Center seeking advice and assistance finding part time jobs, internships and permanent jobs after graduation
