Interning in Washington, DC?  $1000 UO Alumni Association Scholarship
 
The UO Alumni Association National Capital Chapter awards one $1000 DC Intern Scholarship annually to a UO undergraduate or graduate student participating in an internship program in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.  The goal of the DC Intern Scholarship Program is to facilitate skills and career development through interactive hands-on work experience. It is designed to assist you with some, but not all of the living and/or travel expenses incurred during your internship. The National Capital Chapter welcomes applications from any UO student without regard to age, race, gender, disability, or ethnicity.
 
The scholarship is $1000 and the application deadline is December 7, 2007.  The recipient will be notified by December 19, 2007. 
 
ELIGIBILITY:
Please read the following requirements carefully as you consider applying for the scholarship: 
 
1. The internship must take place in Washington, D.C., metropolitan area.  It may be under the auspices of the University of Oregon or any other recognized internship organization.
2. You must be currently enrolled in a degree program and in good academic standing.
3. The internship must show promise of advancing your career goals, graduate school requirements, senior thesis, etc.
4. The student must complete the internship and all requirements satisfactorily, which include the following:
• The internship involves a minimum of 120 hours of work, usually 20 to 30 hours/week, over 6-8 weeks and is completed successfully.
• The internship consists of substantive and supervised work related to your academic major, minor, area of concentration, or career interests.
• The recipient must conduct an informational interview with a National Capital Chapter representative during the internship and complete a final report of his/her experience by the designated deadline. The report must include a written final performance evaluation on official letterhead from the internship sponsor. The recipient shall also share his/her experiences after the internship is completed.
 
APPLICATION PROCEDURES:
To apply for the UO Alumni Association National Capital Chapter D.C. Intern Scholarship, the following items must received by December 7, 2007.

2. Unofficial transcript.
3. Resume.
4. D.C. Intern Scholarship Proposal (1 pg).
This proposal details the soundness and merit of your internship idea. The proposal should include learning goals and how it fits into your future academic or career plans. Please bear in mind that your proposal will serve as your writing sample, allowing you to demonstrate your communication skills.  We will also be using this document to determine whether your skill set and your goals match those of the internship.
5. A letter of acceptance from the organization where the internship will take place.

Once the announcement is made, the scholarship winner will receive $750 at the beginning of the internship.  The remaining $250 will be allocated once the student submits the final internship report, including the sponsor evaluation, to the National Capital Chapter intern scholarship coordinator identified above.
