A six month internship in Townesville, Australia is available for students of International/Environmental Law, Environmental Sciences and Studies, Oceanography, Oceans Policy, Natural Resource Management, Marine Science, Law, planning, community participation, anthropology, fisheries, or natural resource management.

The International Ocean Institute Regional Centre for Australia and the Western Pacific, IOI (Australia) in Townsville is the first regional centre for the IOI. It began operating in April 2002. IOI (Australia) enhances links between Australia and its developing country neighbors in Oceania and the western Pacific. It also provides an interface between science and the social sciences on issues relating to the sustainable use of coastal and ocean resources. The IOI promotes education, training and research to enhance the peaceful uses of ocean space and its resources, its management and regulation as well as the protection and conservation of the marine environment.
