STUDENT SERVICES POSITION: ADVOCATE

Portland YouthBuilders (PYB) is a two year alternative education and job training program dedicated to assisting young adults, ages 17-24, complete their high school or GED education, obtain job readiness skills, and secure viable career placements. As a member of the Student Services Team, each advocate provides case management and career or post-secondary educational counseling in support of students moving from dependency to self-sufficiency in their field of career interest.

Specific areas of responsibility:

Assess needs of students as they pertain to completing PYB’s two year program. Provide case management services in support of completion.
Provide feedback and evaluation to each student that accurately reflects the student’s progress in the program.
Direct student examination of viable career pathways through peer group facilitation, job skill training, student directed research, and employment exposure within the community.
Support student in developing career plan that results in academic or vocational placement by the end of the first year of program participation.
Provide ongoing support to students placed in post-secondary education or employment settings that stabilizes and advances placement.
Help students access appropriate resources within the agency and in the community.
Organize and oversee graduate support activities including recreational events and support groups.
Maintain accurate records in compliance with professional standards and funding requirements.
