Jason Te, Team Leader for Target
Last year I was a senior at UO who was looking to join forces with a growing company that possessed an enlightened company culture, business management training, a promote-from-within philosophy with ample advancement opportunities, and last but certainly not least, highly competitive wages. Looking back, I am glad I made the choice to work for a company who fully embraces these attributes- Target.
As a Team Leader for Target, I am responsible for overseeing a major department in a 1.5-million square feet distribution center. In my four short months with the company I can see that its culture is exactly what I was told it was; Fast, Fun and Friendly. My experience here thus far has provided me with a vast amount of knowledge regarding how to be a successful leader as well as the technical aspects to running a business. Like me, Target believes in continuous development, both for the company as a whole as well as every one of its team members. In short, Target is heavily invested in my success and this is just one of many reasons I am happy to be invested in Target.
Kelsey Lewis, Area Trainer for the Pacific Northwest, Eli Lilly
I graduated from the University of Oregon Lundquist College of Business in June 2003 with a B.S. in Business Administration: Marketing/Finance. I truly enjoyed my time during college working with different people and social groups including my sorority, Pi Beta Phi, and wanted to continue in a career where I could work with customers in various settings. Those are some of the reasons why I chose a career in pharmaceutical sales at Eli Lilly and Company. I was impressed with the caliber of people at Lilly, the collaborative yet challenging culture it had fostered, and the level of value that I was able to bring to physicians and patients each day in my job. In my time at Lilly I have been fortunate enough to launch three phenomenal pharmaceutical products in the Portland and Seattle markets. I am now a Neuroscience Sales Trainer for the Pacific NW area; I spend my time working with representatives across five states to develop their skills and relationships with customers in their sales territory. I have grown in my career at Lilly through hard work, determination, support from my peers and management, and never resting on past successes.
Jeremy Houy, Division Manager, First Investors Corporation – Spokane, WA
I graduated from U of O in December 2001. I immediately joined the Beaverton office of First Investors Corporation as a Registered Representative. Through their training program, I was able to obtain my securities licenses, as well as learn how to run a business. I worked closely with my mentor and a team of supervisors to accelerate my progress. After learning the business and becoming successful, I entered the management training program that is offered by First Investors Corporation. Through this program, I received hands on experience on how to manage an office and supervise representatives. While in the management training program, I continued to work with my clients helping them manage their finances. Within five years of graduating from U of O, I moved to Spokane, WA and started a new office for First Investors Corporation. I am now a Division Manager for a Wall St. based financial services company. It is a position I always wanted to be in, but never imagined it would happen by the time I was 26 years old. I look forward to helping First Investors grow, and ultimately retiring with the company that has provided me with so much opportunity and training.
Julie Wonder, Navy
After graduating this past June from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Architecture degree, Julie Wonder already finds herself in her dream job; serving as an officer in the Navy’s Civil Engineer Corps. “It’s wonderful to be able to use what I learned in school to serve a cause that is greater than myself and to really make a difference in the world,” says Julie. “I know I’ve grown a lot through the whole experience, and I’m looking forward to all that this career has in store for me.” Julie joined the Navy at the end of her junior year at the University of Oregon as part of the Baccalaureate Degree Completion Program, through which the Navy paid her a full salary just to attend school and finish her degree. “Getting paid by the Navy allowed me to support myself through my last year of architecture school up in Portland and to really focus on school,” she explains, “and now I make more money than most of my classmates do, and I’m doing exciting things that most of them can’t even comprehend.”
