How the Informational Interview Process Works

Only students who are enrolled in the Career Connections Program classes or who have met individually with a career counselor have access to the Professional Network.

What Career Professionals Need to Do To Participate

  1. Sign in to your UO-JobLink Professional Network account.
  2. Once you are in UO-JobLink, activate your profile.  To do this, you need to click on account in the menu bar followed by the Professional Network tab.  Click yes to activate your profile and yes to release information. You can change your profile from Active to Inactive at any time.
  3. Students can search by employer, job title, professional profile, and educational background.  It is also helpful to include information about your industry and position for students who are searching profiles.

What happens during the process?

  1. Students in the Career Connections Program are given access to the Professional Network during week four of each academic term (approximately late October, mid-February, and late April).  Students have one week to search the Professional Network and select two career professionals for informational interviews.
  2. You will know if you have been selected if you receive an email from UO-JobLink with the student's contact information (the Career Center and the student receive a copy as well).  The email asks you to respond to the student with your availability and contact information to schedule a thirty-minute informational interview.
  3. Given the constraints of the academic term, we prefer that students complete their informational interviews within one month of selecting a participating professional.  If this does not work for your schedule, please let the student know, and we will assist him/her in finding another professional to interview.
