JOB DESCRIPTION: As a primary contact for Safeway customers, the Intern provides friendly, courteous, and helpful service. The Intern is usually assigned to a training store and manager for a 3 months period. The Intern assists the management staff in performing the following duties personally, or supervising employees performing these duties. Coordinates sales promotion activities and prepares or directs workers preparing merchandise displays. Supervises employees engaging in sales work, taking of inventory, reconciling cash with sales receipts, keeping operating records or preparing daily records of transactions. May perform work of subordinates as needed. Assist with ordering merchandise and preparing requisitions to replenish merchandise on hand. Assists in ensuring compliance of employees with established security, sales and record keeping procedures and practices. May answer customer’s complaints or inquiries. May assist with interviews. Employee spends approximately 1 to 2 hours per day in the check stand functioning as cashier-checker. May complete customer accident reports, product recalls and other paperwork. During the course of the training period the Intern will work in each department of the store including meat, deli, bakery, and all other departments.
