Find a Summer or Limited Duration Job
The process of looking for a seasonal or summer job can't begin too early--it takes time to make a plan and research the options. More importantly, now is the time to start asking friends, family, neighbors and other acquaintances about leads. Remember, employers want motivated workers who are going to arrive to work on time, have a positive attitude, work hard, work well with others, show leadership qualities, work their full shift, and do the best job they can.
Here are just a few places to consider:
- Local employers near the university or in your home town—both small companies and corporations.
- Retail, shopping malls and grocery stores
- Hotels, resorts, tourist attractions and theme parks
- Restaurants including fast food locations
- Parks and recreation programs available through your local city, county and state. Many local governments offer summer camp programs for kids. Don't forget special events like fairs, festivals, etc.
- Create your own job and work for yourself—pet day care/walker, house cleaner, errand-runner, child care, house painter, landscaper/yard worker, etc.
